Alexander Joseph Sims Sr., more affectingly called Al, joined the angels in heaven on Wednesday, December 25, 2013 in Plymouth, NC. Al was born on August 15, 1937 in Columbia, SC. He left South Carolina at a young age and moved to Brooklyn, NY where he finished his education at Thomas Jefferson High School. While in New York, Al was employed at Coco Cola in which he worked for 15 years. He also served as a Boy Scout troop leader for 10 years. He later moved his family to Plymouth, NC. Once in Plymouth, Al; found employment at Weyerhaeuser. After 35 years as a machinist at Weyerhaeuser, Al retired in 1998. Al is preceded in death by his parents, David Sr. and Rosalee Nelson Sims; his sister, Bessie Mae Hart; sons, Alexander Joseph Sims Jr. and Anthony David Sims; grand-daughter, Ashawna Sims and sister-in-law, Eileen Sims. Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Angela Ross (Ron) of Virginia Beach, VA; Anthony Williams (Sabrina) of Hampton, VA; Alexander Sims of Virginia Beach, VA and Anissa Vital (Stanley) of Roosevelt, NY. He also leaves behind his sisters, Freddrena Hart (Charlie) of Eldridge, NY; Mary Small of Hopskin, SC and Catherine Sims of Bronx, NY; his brothers David Sims Jr (Joan) of Lake Murray, SC and Harry Sims of Brooklyn, NY. Seventeen grandchildren, Danielle, Ja'Quan, Jhamalee, Achante', Amoire, Tamikha, Antwonique, Adrian, Darius, Kerri, Dar, Anthony, Hakeem, Andre, Azarian, Alawna, and Marquez, three great grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
