Minister Alice Purvis Fields was born on November 7, 1930 to the late Otis and Mable Williams Purvis. She departed this life on June 11, 2013.
She was educated in the Washington County School System. Later, she was employed by the Washington County School System, from which she retired several years ago.
She was united in holy matrimony to Matthew Fields, Sr. on February 2, 1947. He preceded her in death.
Serving as a Minister for many years, she lived her life preparing to one day hear the words, "Well done, My good an faithful servant." She was a spirit-filled child of God who served in many roles during her Christian journey at First Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member. First, she was a member of the Senior Choir, a member of the Christian Light Club, Mother of the Church, and a Missionary, prior to becoming a Minister. She also served on the Albemarle Union's Executive Board and Financial Committee and was, for many years, First Zion Grove's representative on the Albemarle Union Scholarship Committee.
Minister Fields leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters- Alice F. Jones- Plymouth, NC., Sherlene Attoh and Mable Fields, both of Raleigh, NC.; three sons- Matthew Fields, Jr.- Plymouth, NC., Minister Sammy Fields- Belvidere, NC., Avondale Fields- Clayton, NC.; two sisters- Ruth Patrick and Doris J. Norman -Roper, NC.; two brothers- David Purvis- Roper, NC., Clarence Purvis- Creswell, NC.; twenty-one grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were 2:00PM Sunday June 16, 2013 at First Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Wayne I. Welch, Jr. officiating. Burial followed in First Zion Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
