Annie Mae Polk, the daughter of the late Issac Burnette and Lucille Norman, began her journey of life April 21, 1930 in Washington County. She made her peaceful transition into eternity on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Milford Memorial Hospital in Milford, DE.

As a young virtuous woman, Annie became a member of Shiloh Church of Christ Disciples of Christ where she confirmed her faith through baptism and developed strong morals and values through teachings of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Annie also attended Washington County Public Schools. Into her adulthood, she later moved to Greenwood, DE where she was employed by King Cole for 21 years. Annie was a hard worker and provider for her family.

Annie, a beacon of Great Spirit, had an impeccable sense of humor the inspired and enlightened anyone who came into her presence. She was a force to be reckoned with. Many deemed her as bold and strong-willed. She was a very loyal and loving friend. Her personality drew young and old. She had an art of storytelling. Her narratives were well crafted, it was her way of expressing her thoughts and ideas. Her use of imagery in her stories would engage her audience as she vocalized and use of physical movements as depictions to engulf one's imagination. All listeners become immersed in the experience. Annie's reflections of life depicted moments of clarity, truth, and enthusiasm. She lived a life of joy and hope. Unapologetic, a life with no regrets. She projected life into her family and close friends.

Three special step-daughters: Deborah Polk-Peacock(Frank) of Bridgeville, DE, Kimberly Polk-Johnson(Raymond) of Lincoln, DE, and Lisa Polk-Sylvain of Dover, DE. Four sisters: Ida Fields of Plymouth, NC, Mary Floyd(Cliff) of Ohio, Gloria B. Gibson of New York, and Barbara Phelps(Jerome) of Plymouth,NC. Six brothers: Samuel Burnette (Julie) of Plymouth, NC, Sonny Ray Burnette (Shelia) of Roper, NC, Larry Burnette (Merlene) of Plymouth,NC, Reverend Isaac Burnette Jr. of LaGrange, NC, Levi Burnette (Jackie) of Nyack, NY, and Bishop James Burnette of Plymouth, NC. Two Sister-in-Laws: Reanetta Norman of Roper, NC, and Gwen Burnette of Nyack, Ny. 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, three special nieces: Emily Barrow of Roper,NC, Evelyn Norman of Hyattsville, MD and Patricia Norman AKA "Tricia" of Stafford, VA. One special nephew John Wesley Norman AKA "Dick" of Roper, NC. One special cousin Sammy Morris Wynn. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Isaac Burnette; mother Lucille Norman: three sisters: Viola Norman, Shirley Burnette, and Evelyn Burnette Goddard. Three brothers: Roosevelt Burnette, Joe Wheeler Norman Sr. and George Washington Chesson.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May, 9, 2015 at 1:00 PM, at Shiloh Church of Christ, Roper, NC, with Bishop Daniel Gilliam, Officiating. Burial followed at the Church Cemetery.
