Annie Elizabeth Wrighton Johnson was born on January 9, 1924 to the late Mister Wrighton and Mary Horton of Washington County. She departed this life into eternal rest on Monday, January 18, 2016 at her home.
She attended the Washington County public school system. Later, Annie married William Roger Johnson, who preceded her in death.
At a very early age, Annie joined Macedonia A.M.E. Zion Church where she served as Head Usher. She also spear-headed two successful Usher Anniversary programs at Macedonia. As a dedicated and faithful usher, she continued her duties until the fourth Sunday before her death, December 27, 2015.
Annie was also a devoted employee at East Carolina Supply Company until her retirement.
During her lifetime, she received several awards and certificates for her numerous acts of kindness. She received the Grandmother's Certificate because of her desire to adopt three of her grandchildren; William Roger Johnson, Jr., Tracy Jay Johnson (deceased), and Sandra Denise Johnson. Just prior to her passing, she received the March of Dimes Certificate for her financial support.
Annie was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Wrighton; four siblings, Harm, Johnelle, Odell and Monroe. Her niece, Lucy Wrighton; nephews, Antonio Wrighton and Joseph "Joe" Wrighton, and a sister-in-law, Minister Berla Patrick Wrighton, also preceded her in death.
Annie leaves to cherish the memories of her life, one daughter, Jacqueline Wrighton (Melvin Brown) of Plymouth, NC; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
She is also survived by two stepdaughters; Catherine Bird (Joe) of Plymouth, NC and Janice Woolard (Johnnie) of Raleigh, NC; stepson, Danny Johnson (Mary) of Plymouth, NC; two special nieces and a host of other relatives and special friends.
