Mother Bettie Lee Drake Bratts, daughter of the late Elder William Cecil Drake and the late Mother Lessie Vann Bunch Drake, was born in Bertie County on June 1, 1945. Mother Bettie Bratts departed this life on January 16, 2017.
Mother Bratts and her family relocated to Plymouth when she was a child and she remained in the community for over forty years. She was educated in Bertie and Washington County school systems. As a young lady, she met and married Willie Bratts. Bettie was a committed member of her community who actively participated in civil rights activities and enjoyed family gatherings. She was an avid gardener as well as a devoted member of First Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, under the leadership of Pastor Gino Jennings.
Mother Bratts was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Alisa Lazette Bratts, her youngest son, Marcus Lopel Bratts, brothers Matthew Lee Bunch, Glennie Lee Drake and Cecil Ray Drake as well as nephew S. Rico Blount.
She leaves to cherish her legacy; children Jeno M. Bratts (Jeannie) of Wake Forest, NC; Claudius R. Bratts (Shelia) of Durham, NC; Morris Bratts of Duluth, GA; WRenia M. Bratts-Brown (James) of Raleigh, NC; A. Selenia Bratts of Mableton, GA; J. Anthony Spruill, Jr. of Greensboro, NC; Mary L. Bratts of Plymouth, NC; William M. Bratts and Shanika J. Bratts of Rocky Mount, NC.
Her loving grandchildren are Charles Jefferson of Raleigh, Ashley Bowens and Zarria Bratts of Durham, Morris R. Bratts, Jr., Jasmine N. Bratts and Brandon O. Bratts of Georgia, Chione L. Bratts and Kelleigh J. Bratts of Georgia, Shakera S. Spruill of Plymouth, Tremaine A. Spruill of Greensboro, David-Marcus L. Towah and Kyler J. Towah of Rocky Mount.
Mother Bratts' great grandchildren are Dyemond Richardson, Cameron Jefferson and A'laiyah Jefferson of Raleigh, Blake Bowens of Durham; and Carley Spruill of Plymouth.
Her sisters are Barbara Drake Blount and Brenda Drake, both of Plymouth.
Nieces and nephews are Devetta Blount, June Blount Jones, Sherri Blount Gilliam (Lamont); Leslie Drake, Tonia Drake and Sonya Drake, Milton Blount, Kelvin Blount, Terri Blount and Sherrod Blount (Marva).
Mother Bratts also leaves an extended Spruill family of aunts, uncles, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, First Church Family and adoptive family and friends.
