Carl Walter McCray was born September 10, 1967. He was the son of the late Carlton Ray McCray and Shirley Jones McCray of Roper, NC. He was called home to glory on September 30, 2014.
Carl, also known as "Dippy", joined Bethel Church of Christ at an early age. He was a 1985 graduate of Plymouth High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country proudly from 1985 to 1993.
Carl was employed by Washington County as a water treatment plant operator for 16 years. Some of his hobbies were drag racing, boating, fishing, tinkering on his race car, and enjoying good old family fun. He coached the little league recreational teams and served as an assistant coach for the Washington County Union Middle School 7th and 8th grade teams.
Carl leaves to cherish his memories- his loving and devoted wife of 15 years- Mary Ann McCray, sons- James "Bossman" White- Rocky Mount, NC., "Lil" Carl Jeremy McCray- of the home, grandson- Damarion White, mother- Shirley Jones McCray- Roper, NC., grandmother- Ella Smack- Bridgeville, Del., sisters- Shawn McCray- Roper, NC., Sherrie McCray Robinson (Antoine)- Charlotte, NC., mother-in-law- Mary Jane White, father-in-law- James E. White (Bernice), sisters-in-law- Lula Ann White- Rocky Mount, NC., Molly Belcher (Mike)- Knightdale, NC., Fredricia Phelps- Raleigh, NC., brothers-in-law- Archie Phelps (Tracey)- Spotsylvannia, VA., James White- Alexandria, VA., nieces- Airelle and Alla Robinson, three godchildren- Devonte' Phelps, Tiffany Chesson, Ja'Mesiyah Norman, five uncles, three aunts and a special friend whom he referred to as his stepsister, Felesheion Phelps (Bobby)- Plymouth, NC., and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were 1:00PM Wednesday October, 8 2014 at Bethel Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) with Elder Samuel Smith, pastor, Elder Jeffery Hines, officiating. Burial followed in Bethel Church of Christ Cemetery.
