Castolee "Cass" Small was born March 24, 1929 to the late Sidney Seth Johnson Small and the late Clara L. Bond Small Sharpe in Plymouth, North Carolina. She departed this life on June 10, 2016 at the Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.
Castolee was the ninth child born to her parents; she joined Second Zion Grove Baptist Church at an early age and became a member of the choir. She attended church while living in New York, and in 2001, Castolee returned to Plymouth and renewed her membership at Second Zion Grove; her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 23.
She attended Plymouth High School and was a member of the basketball team. After graduation from high school, Castolee moved to New York City where she found employment in the Garment District.
Castolee was primarily a private person who enjoyed high fashion clothing.
Castolee was preceded in death by her mother, Clara Small Sharpe; her father, Sidney Small; five brothers, Albert, Tarlton, Fred, Warren, and Emanuel; three sisters, Annie, Cornelia, and Vienia.
She leaves to cherish her memories; two sisters, Paris Small-Jacobs of Plymouth, NC and Lavender Small Murray (John) of Newport News, VA; one brother, Charlie B. Sharpe, Jr. of Roper, NC; one sister-in-law, Annie M. Small, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
