Obituary

David Clinton Gilliam was born June 20, 1955 to the late Daniel Lee Gilliam, Sr. and Laura Chesson Gilliam. He went to meet our Heavenly Father at Washington County Hospital on Saturday September 6, 2014.

He attended Washington County Schools and graduated Plymouth High School in 1973.

David joined Bethel Church of Christ at an early age. He was a member of the Usher Board. He later moved his membership to New Bethel Church of Christ.

He wasn't a stranger to hard work. He was employed at Kelley Superette, First Colony Farms and Weyerhaeuser until his health declined.

David met and married his soulmate, Shelia Pitt on September 14, 1973. They enjoyed a loving and fulfilling marriage. To this union two lovely children were born, Lolla and Larry Gilliam.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 40 years, Shelia Pitt Gilliam- of the home; daughter- Lolla Gilliam Bryant (Darren); son- Larry Darnell Gilliam (Tiffany); mother- Laura Chesson Gilliam McCray; brother- Vice Bishop Daniel Gilliam, Jr.(Mary); sisters- Brenda Gilliam Hill (Lester Lee), Lisa Gilliam Ambrose (Rennie); seven grandchildren- DeSean Downing, Niah Gilliam, Nia Gilliam, Tyon (TJ) Downing, Tyquan Downing, Darius Bryant and Daunte Bryant; father-in-law- Lindberg Pitt; three brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, two special nieces who he helped raise, Belinda Gilliam and Latoya Carson as well as a wealth of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends all whom he loved dearly

David was preceded in death by one brother, Larry Gilliam, one sister, Linda Gilliam, his grandparents Jesse Wilson Chesson and Cardelia Swain Chesson, Eleanor Gilliam and Ernest Nixon, Sr., and his mother-in-law, Bertha Lee Pitt and two brothers-in-law.

Funeral services were 2:00PM Saturday September 13, 2014 at New Bethel Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) with Eldre Dr. Johnson Hazel, pastor, officiating and Vice Bishop Daniel Gilliam, eulogist. Burial followed in New Bethel Church Cemetery.
