Derrick Carnel Tuggles was born July 19, 1955 in Plymouth, NC to Clara Tuggles and to the late Johnnie Tuggles. "LOOKIE" as he was affectionately called by family and friends departed this life on Thursday January 16, 2014 around his family.

Derrick attended Washington County schools and later joined the Marine Corps where he received an honorable discharge in 1973. Derrick became employed immediately after returning from the Marines and held various jobs until moving to California in 1978-1980. He returned to North Carolina in 1980 after his health began to fail and remained here.


Derrick leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Clara Tuggles of Plymouth NC, six brothers, Johnnie Franks (Elizabeth) of New Bern, NC, Rev. Joseph Thighpen (Ella) of Robersonville, NC, Vincent Tuggles (Carolyn) of Raleigh, NC, Zaragona Tuggles (Joyce) of Accokeek, MD, Gregory Tuggles (Niece) of Dumfries, VA, and Marlonza Tuggles of Alexandria, VA; five sisters, Angeline of Fort Washington, MD, Maranda Boston of Alexandria, VA, Bonita Tuggles of Plymouth, NC, LaShonne Tugglees of Manhattan, New York, and Quonza Tuggles of Jamesville, NC; four aunts, Geneva Chappell of Laurel, MD; Lethia Harrell of Plymouth, NC; Lula Mae and Mary Tuggles of Clewiston, FL; one uncle, Herbert Johnson (Ofay) of Plymouth, NC, thirty-four nieces and nephews, thirty-two great nieces and nephews, and four great-great nieces and nephews and a host of cousin and friends.
Derrick was preceded by death by his father Johnnie Tuggles , an older sister Nancy Tuggles Cordon, his grandmother Willie Mae Tuggles, two uncles Percy Lamont, Billy Chappell and a nephew Corwin Cordon.

Funeral services were 1:00PM Friday January 24, 2014 at Second Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Hubert Judon, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Second Zion Grove Cemetery.
