Doris Magdalene Hedgebeth Moore was born December 23, 1923 in Washington County to the late James Hedgebeth and Nancy Gertrude Hedgebeth. She departed this earthly life at her home on May 17, 2013.

The first born and oldest daughter of five siblings where she was nurtured in a very Christian and loving environment during her early childhood. She was baptized at an early age at Spring Green Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ).

"Mu" as she was affectionately called by her children attended the public schools of Washington County. While attending high school she was a star basketball player at the Plymouth Colored High School.

On October 4, 1942, Doris was united in holy matrimony to the late Wiley Moore, Sr., and to this union nine children were born.

Mrs. Moore moved her membership to worship with her husband to New Chapel Baptist Church. While a member at New Chapel, she was an active member of many auxiliaries.

Mrs. Moore later moved her membership to the Temple of Christ Church. She was the mother of Temple of Christ Church and a faithful member until her health prevented her from attending.

Doris worked at various occupations starting at the Peanut Factory in Plymouth, domestic work for private homeowners and in the housekeeping department at the Washington County Hospital until retirement.

During retirement, she spent many hours at the Washington County Senior Citizen Center engaging in arts and crafts and singing in the choir. She loved to give her crafts to her children.

She leaves to cherish her memory three sons- Wiley Moore, Jr., (Pettronella)- Bronx, NY., Roddy Moore, Sr. (Michelle)- Yorktown, VA., Eric Moore (Sherry) Wilson, NC.; four daughters- Dorothy E. Bentley (Philip)- Bronx, NY., Brenda Bunche- Randallstown, MD., Carolyn Brown (Thomas)- Detroit, MI., Michele Evans- Stockbridge, GA.; twenty nine grandchildren, thirty seven great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; two brothers-in-laws- Samuel Garrett and Willie D. Green both of Plymouth, NC.; three sisters-in-laws- Lillie O'Tassie Kendall- Goldsboro, NC., Simera Pettiford- Plymouth, NC., Eula Hedgebeth- Robersonville, NC., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services were 1:00PM May 24, 2013 at New Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Bishop Avery Barnes, officiating, Reverend Harry White, Pastor. Burial followed in John D. Moore Cemetery, Plymouth.
