Elizabeth "Gertrude" Simmons' Obituary
Elizabeth "Gertrude" Simmons was born on December 23, 1944 in Washington County to the late David Simmons and Thelma Moore Simmons. She transitioned from this life on October 25, 2015. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her siblings Pauline, James, and David Simmons, Jr.
Elizabeth was educated in Washington County and received her high school diploma from Roper Union School. She was employed as a Dietary Aide for Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital for more than forty years. Elizabeth was a dedicated and hard worker who rarely missed a day of work.
"Gert", as she was affectionately known, was a humble and generous woman who was devoted to her family. She loved to cook, enjoyed her morning coffee, and welcomed the challenge of a good crossword puzzle. She showed her support to those around her by attending many graduations, celebrations and sporting events.
Elizabeth leaves to cherish her memories: a son, Ricky Simmons of the home, two daughters; Sharon ad Nekisha Simmons, both of Virginia Beach, VA; two sisters; Mildred Simmons and Ernestine (Frank) Stevens, both of Plymouth, NC; three brothers; Clarence (Brenda) Simmons of Plymouth, NC; Jasper Simmons of Brooklyn, NY, and Willie E. (Peggy) Spruill of Virginia Beach, VA.
Elizabeth also leaves nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will be missed by her two best friends; Ms. Tootsie and Mrs. Bernice Holloman.
