Emilia Mazon Blount's Obituary
Emilia Mazon Blount was born Maria Adela Emerenciana Emilia Mazon on September 23, 1921 in Barrio Baccuit, town of Bauang, La Union province on Luzon in the Philippine Islands. She passed into eternal rest on March 18, 2016.
She was born the fifth of ten children - the only daughter - to her parents, Guillermo and Lucera Mazon (nee Hipol).
Emilia attended Far Eastern University in Manila in Philippines before World War II, and returned to college many years later to complete her education as a Dean's List student at Fayetteville State University in Fayetteville, NC.
She met William Clyde Blount when he was serving as an Infantry soldier in WWII in the midst of the Japanese invasion of the Philippine Islands. As a military wife, Emilia traveled back and forth across the oceans and from state to state, with husband and children, wherever the Army stationed them.
Until her health rendered it impossible, Emilia was a faithful member of St. Mary's congregation, where she sang in the Senior Choir, and was a dedicated member of the Usher Board for the Washington/Norfolk Assembly.
Emilia is survived by three of her six children: sons, Clyde Blount and Jan Blount, and daughter, Lucera Blount Parker; nine grandchildren, Trulawn McCray, Michael Simpson, Serena Simpson, Maria Taylor-Perry, Freda Kerr, William Blount, Ashley Blount McKinley, Loren Parker and Charles Morton-Parker.
She also leaves four great grandchildren; Jason and Josh Harrison, Danielle Kerr, and Miles Wright; two great-great granddaughters, Ma'khiya Harrison and Malaysia Sturdivant Harrison, and scores of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
