Ervin Hill was born October 20, 1929 in Tyrrell County to the late Walter and Mary Alexander Hill. He returned to his heavenly home on August 17, 2015 after a valiant battle with his illness. His devotion to his family and firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

Ervin was taught to love the Lord at an early age and his love continued to grow as he entered adulthood. He attended school in Tyrrell County.

Ervin has always been a hard worker at heart and took great pride in his work and was blessed with a very loving family. He loved to sing, cook, laugh and joke, watch his classic TV shows, and read the Bible. Prior to his illness you could find him sitting under his carport reading the Bible or working in his yard. He adored his wife of 66 years and continued to "woo" her even throughout his final months. He married his best friend an childhood playmate. He raised his children with discipline and humility. He taught them the true value of hard work and lived by example to demonstrate the importance of making an honest living and being upstanding citizens.

Ervin was a devoted member of New Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board, Superintendent of Sunday School and Choir Member. Ervin was also employed at House Chevrolet in downtown Plymouth as an Auto Technician for over 30 years. After this company closed he later gained employment with Manning Motor Company. He always had a love for cars and took great pride and joy in reconditioning cars and helping them look as good as new. He also cleaned and maintain the lawn at Grace Episcopal for over 30 years.

Ervin is survived by his wife- Mable Harris Hill; sons- James Ervin Hill (Beulah) and Ernest Weldon Hill (Rosa); daughter- Joanna Hill Clark (Marvin); nine grandchildren- Ervin, James (Donna), Alton (Danielle), Alex, Cieraca, Jamar (Brittany0< Janaye, Jeston, and Jaylah; nine great grandchildren; sisters- Mary Waller and Cheryl Young (Ricky); and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers- Bennie Gray Hill, Thomas Lumford Hill, Alonza "Honey" Hill; son- William "Bill" Alexander and daughter Betty Jo Hill who died in infancy.

Funeral services were 2:00PM Sunday August 23, 2015 at New Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Harry L. White, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Ellis Lee Cemetery.
