Grant Bonds Small was born January 26, 1953 to the late James Small and Hilda Geralds Small. The Lord called him to his heavenly home December 27, 2016.
Grant attended the publc schools of Washington County. At an early age he joined Mt. Hebron AME Zion Church. He was the president of the Usher Board, Preachers's Steward and Trustee. He was a trustworthy and faithful member til the end. There was nothing he wouldn't do for his church. He was adopted into the Long Ridge Missionary Baptist Church as an "Honorary Member". He was a faithful honorary usher, youth leader, Pastor's Steward, and Kitchen Committee member.
Grant was employed with the Town of Plymouth, Perdue of Robersonville, NC, the NC Dept. of Transportation, and ENVIRO-VAC until his health began to fail. He was a faithful and lifetime employee of Toodle's Funeral Home. He loved working for Toodle's, it was his pride and joy.
Some of Grant's hobbies were watching wrestling and all the judge TV shows. He also liked fishes and had an aquarium he loved. And his birds, cockatoos, two of them were the love of his heart. His love of children was outstanding and they loved him too; to many he became an instant uncle. Grant loved "old school" music. He was a good natured person and would literally give you the shirt off his back if it would help you.
Grant leaves to cherish his memories: three brothers; Sammie Small, Fla., James Small, Greensboro, NC, Nelson Small, Plymouth, NC.; one sister, Costella Hopkins, Greenville, NC.; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Small and one sister, Viola Small.
Funeral services were 12:00PM December 31, 2016 at Long Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. Dr. General James, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Toodle's Cemetery.
