Herbert "Doll" Moore was born October 2, 1948 in Pea Ridge Community (Roper, NC.) to the late Calvin Coolidge Moore and Willie Mae Clagon Staton. He departed this life on September 13, 2015 at Washington County Hospital.
He attended 4th Street School and Washington County Union School, and was promoted to the 9th grade but chose not to continue his education. However, he went to Job Corps in Cherokee, NC and afterwards became employed at SK Wilson Logging of Williamston, NC. His other employment included Weyerhaeuser Paper Company, where he worked for 29 years before his retirement. While at Weyerhaeuser, he was a truck driver and then later worked as a boiler room operator.
Herbert was a member of Guiding Star Free Will Baptist Church in Plymouth. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin and uncle. He was a role model to many young boys and men in Washington County and surrounding areas. Herbert suffered a stroke but this didn't stop him from doing the things he enjoyed such as driving around, meeting and talking with his friends at Red Apple and Makin' Tracks for a cup of coffee, or watching his grandsons. You could always see him at a Plymouth High School Football game on Friday nights watching his grandsons play. He also enjoyed watching the Men's Softball League during the summer months as he was a former 1st baseman for the Plymouth Cobras.
Herbert was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Past Master of Carthagenia Lodge #38 Prince Hall Affiliated, Queen Esther Jewel #32 Order of Eastern Star (PHA), Shadid Temple #233, Golden Crown Lodge #253 I.B.P.O.
