Irene Spruill Simmons, the daughter of the late Pauline Norman Spruill amd Deacon Abner Spruill was born September 26, 1934 in Roper, NC. Her journey through this life ended quietly on Sunday September 9, 2012 at Chowan River Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Edenton, NC.

She received her early education in Washington County Public Schools. At an early age she accepted christ as her personal saviour and joined Shiloh Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ)where she has remained a faithful member for quite sometime. During her early years she was a member of the choir and usher board.

Irene married Howard Simmons whom preceded her in death.

Irene enjoyed cooking. She loved baking cakes and made sure you had a cake or peach cobbler for Sunday dinner. She loved canning vegetables. Her specialties were cinnamon spiced cucumbers, pear and fig preserves. Other favorites included graham cracker treats, deviled eggs and chicken salad.

She leaves to cherish her memory one sister-Margaret Spruill Barcliff, Jr.- Virginia Beach, VA., and a host nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held 12:00PM Friday September 14, 2012 at Shiloh Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) with Vice Bishop Daniel Gilliam officiating. Burial followed in Spruill Family Cemetery, Roper.
