Obituary

James Linwood Basnight was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 8, 2015. He was born on March 6, 1932 to the late Paul and Mary Basnight in Creswell, NC. Thet later moved to Roper, NC.

He attended JJ Clemens School in Washington County at an early age. Thereafter be became employed at Atlantic Logging Company. He was also known for doing a lot of farm work. His pride and joy was his garden. Later through the years he met his beautiful wife, Jessie Lee Basnight. He then became a servant for the Lord and made the decision to join Temple of Christ Church in Plymouth, NC. After years of dedication he soon moved up to becoming a deacon in the church. He thought lot of his leader, Pastor Avery Barnes. He would always say "I love my Pastor."

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 65 years, Jessie Basnight. From this union came 11 children, all of whom are still living: James Earl Basnight (Deborah) of Brooklyn NY: Mary Johnson (Danny), Shirley Simpson, both of Plymouth, NC; Staff Basnight of Fresno, California; Clydie Washington (Robert) of Brooklyn,NYHerman Basnight (Sandra) of Plymouth, NC: BarbaraB. Dakeford (Joseph) of Plymouth, NC; Johnny Earl Basnight (Deborah) of Brooklyn, NY; Diane Brothers (Raynard) of Hobbsville, Nc; Charlotte Mosley (Daniel) of Plymouth, NC and Linda Basnight of Brooklyn, NY. He also leaves one sister, Evelyn Hortense Basnight of Roper, NC. and one brother, Paul Basnight (Louise) of Plymouth, NC; one sis-in-law, Annie Cradle (Robert) of Washington, NC; 2 children he raised as his own at the residence: Vicky Blount (Timothy) of Winfall, NC and Katraius Basnight of Plymouth, NC. James has 30 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 2:00 PM at the Temple of Christ Church of Plymouth, NC. ,with the Bishop Avery A. Barnes, Sr. Pastor officiating. Burial followed at Simmons Cemetery, Macedonia, Plymouth, NC.
