Lettie Small Norman's earthly journey began October 23, 1919 in Bertie County to the late Tommie and Willie Mae Jordan Small. She was called to be with the Lord on September 10, 2013.

Lettie was the fourth of fourteen children. She received her formal education in the Washington County School System.

Mama Lett, as she was affectionately known by many , valued her role as wife and mother. She was a loving and devoted woman of God. At an early age she confessed Christ as her personal Savior and became a member of Second Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where she later served as an usher and president of the WIC Circle. She enthusiastically attended Sunday School, Wednesday Night Prayer and Bible Study. Mother Norman was one of the founding members of Monday noon-day prayer and until her transition was the oldest Mother of the Church. Her love for Christ was demonstrated in her daily work during her many years of employment at Washington County Union School and Washington County Hospital where she retired as custodian.

She leaves to cherish her memory seven children, Luverna Brooks (Kenneth), Mable James and Donald Norman (Patricia) of Plymouth, NC, William Norman of Norfolk Virginia, Evelyn Mitchell(Nathaniel) and Cheryl Lee(Fred) of Chesapeake, VA and Doris Colbert of Laurel, MD; four sisters Bertha Murphy and Mable Wooten of Plymouth NC, Blanche Saunders of Brooklyn NY, Mildred Jackson((Rudolph) of Chesapeake, VA; four sisters in-law, Mary Norman, Gladys Thomas, Norman Jr.(Carolyn), a grand-daughter Regina Norman, and daughter in-law Linda A. Norman; seven brothers, Jonnie, Alphonsa, Sylvester, Joseph, Herbert, William Henry, Walter Henry; two sisters Georgia Cox and Dr. Marjorie Taylor.
