Obituary

Lillian Estelle Norman Pringle was born on August 4, 1926 in Washington County, NC. She was the fourth child of the late Henderson "Pete" Norman and Mary Icelene Norman. She was called to her eternal home on Sunday December 13, 2015.

Lillian accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, and was baptized at Spring Green Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ). Lillian attended Washington County Public Schools and graduated in 1947 from Plymouth Colored High School in Plymouth, NC. She furthered her education and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Elizabeth City State Teachers College (now university) in 1951.

In October of 1964, Lillian was united in holy matrimony to Dr. H. Leon Pringle, an educator and health care scientist. This union was blessed with one loving son, Brett Leon Pringle.

Lillian's career as an educator began as an elementary school teacher in Dames Quarter, Salisbury, Maryland. She served that community for eight years. She returned to her native home of Washington County where she later became the first African American educator to teach after integration. she joined her husband in Richmond, VA and became a dedicated teacher on the Richmond Public School System. While there, she served several schools and in different capacities, and later retired as an educator in 1994.

In Richmond, she united with New Friendship Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ)where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, Superintendent of Vacation Bible School and served as a Missionary.

Returning to her native home in Roper, Lillian united with Shiloh Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) to be closer with her family members. Lillian was prominent in community affairs, especially in the "Pea Ridge" community. She was a founding member of the Board of Directors for Windows of the World in Roper and was a member of the NAACP.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband- Dr. H. Leon Pringle; son- Brett L. Pringle- Richmond, VA.; three sisters- Mary Norman- Roper, NC, Martha N. Watson and Ruth N, Ferguson, both of Philadelphia, PA.; sister-in-law- Christine Norman- Philadelphia, PA.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, George, Joe Louis, James, five sisters, Doll, Willie Mae, Luberta "Duece", Mabel and Lula.

Funeral services were 1:00PM December 19, 2015 at Shiloh Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) with Bishop Daniel Gilliam, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Shiloh Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
