Obituary

Selma James Biggs was born April 24, 1936 in Jamesville, NC. She was the daughter of the late Geneva "Shine" and Jafus James. She departed this life on July 1, 2012 at her daughter's home in Upper Marlboro, MD., after a year and a half battle with breast cancer.

Selma was raised in Piney Woods and attended Martin County Public Schools. She attended Uniontown Church of Christ at an early age while her grandfather, the late Bishop Joseph James, was the presiding Pastor. Selma moved to New York with her mother at an early age. She was baptized at St. Paul's Disciple Church in Brooklyn, NY. where she sang in the Young Adult Choir.

Selma later married Randolph Biggs. To this union two cildren were born, Anthony and Shelia. Later in life she conceived another child, Carolyn, who preceded her in death.

Selma began her employment working as a seamstress. Through the years she worked her way up the ladder and eventually retired in 1998 as a manager for Bali Bra Commpany in New York City after thirty years. Selma modeled her lifr by the "Serenity Prayer" and often instilled those words in her children, grandchildren, and those close to her..."Accept what you can't change, and change what you can."

Selma leaves to cherish her memory; daughter- Shelia Brown, Upper Marlboro, MD.; son- Anthony Biggs- Chestnut Ridge, NY.; sister- Ida Mae Whitaker- Ayden, NC.; four grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 1:00PM Saturday July 7, 2012 at Uniontown Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) with Bishop Daniel Boston, Sr. officiating. Burial followed in Church cemetery
