Obituary

Theresa Cherry Davenport, the daughter of the late William and Leora McNair Cherry, was born September 29, 1942 in Plymouth, NC. She went home to be with the lord at Vidant Medical Center, Greenville, NC on December 17, 2015.

Theresa joined Long Ridge Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. She was a faithful and devoted member until her health declined. Theresa was the president of the Senior Usher Board, Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher.

Theresa was educated in the Washington County School system. She then furthered her education at Beaufort County Community College, receiving an A.S. degree in early childhood education.

After, high school, Theresa moved to New York, where she began working at Queens County Hospital as a receptionist. after a few years, she began employment with the Queens County Social Services Department until moving back to Plymouth in the fall of 1978.

Upon returning to Plymouth, Theresa began working at Power Day Care as a teacher, then moving on to Pines Elementary as a Teacher's Assistant until her health declined. She enjoyed working with the youth in church and in the community.

In New York, Theresa met George Davenport and married on November 11, 1967, who preceded her in death on May 1, 2013. Theresa was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt.

She leaves to cherish her memory, 3 children: Patricia Burnette- Chapel Hill, NC., George, Jr.(Madeline)- Plymouth, NC., and Alton(Monica)- Plymouth, NC.; 6 grandchildren- Leslie, Tyrell, Maurice, Charity, Shantel, and Jaelin; 3 great-grandchildren-Ashanti, Tyshawn and Sayvion; 6 sisters- Shirley(Earl), Earmon, Geraldine, Mona, Wilhelmina(Timothy), Quinterlene (Larry); 2 brothers-in-laws; 1 very special brother-in-law, Alton Bernard (Odessa) and 7 sisters-in-laws.

Preceding her in death are siblings William, Theaster, Robert, Chris, Hilda, Arlander and Thomas (Bud).

Funeral services were 1:00PM December 22, 2015 at Long Ridge Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. General James. Burial followed in Moore Family Cemetery.
