Obituary

Thomas Smithwick, Jr. was born December 16, 1935 in Bronx, NY to the late Annie Belcher Smithwick and Willie Smithwick. He departed this life at his home on September 5, 2016.

Thomas received his education in the school system of New York City, including the prestigious Stuyvesant High School for the intellectually gifted. He held an Associate Degree from Bronx Community College, Bronx, NY and a Bachelors of Science Degree from Regents College of the State University of New York and a Masters Degree from Lehman College from the City University of New York. He was also a member of The National Society of Pershing Rifle Fraternity.

He was an educator in New York school system for over twenty years. He was also employed as a bus driver with the Greyhound Bus Company.

Affectionately known as "Jr." or "Tom", Thomas bought joy, wit, and wisdom to his cousins. He took pride in his role at the Penelope and Rafe Belcher Family Reunions. He could often be seen in the "Center Circle" sharing wisdom and jokes with his eager cousins. He received the family's patriarchal status in July 2014. He truly enjoyed the performing arts and frequently attended Broadway plays and other arts and cultural events. He had a passion for knowledge which enabled him to travel all over the world.

Thomas leaves to cherish his memories; Isidore Ballentine, to ehom he eas a devoted surrogate father; two cousins- Eunice Grey Belcher and Joyce Belcher Matthews, along with a number of other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were 11:30AM Saturday September 17, 2016 at Toodle's Chapel with Rev. Dr. General James, officiating.
