Valtonia Norman Nichols was born May 16, 1928 in Plymouth, NC. She was the daughter of the late William Norman and Lillie Hyman Norman. She entered her eternal rest on Monday, March 2, 2015 at Vidant Memorial Hospital in Greenville, NC.

Valtonia received her education at Fourth Street School in 1951. At an early age, she joined Spring Green Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ). She was a faithful church member until she was physically unable to attend. She served on the Usher Board faithfully and sang in the Choir.

Valtonia met and married the James Louis Nichols and to this union nine children were born. She did domestic work and was a housewife. Valtonia's pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them.

Valtonia leaves to cherish her memory, six sons- English Norman (Shirley)- Plymouth, NC, William Nichols (Sarah)-Pennsylvania, Angelo Nichols (Linda)- Augusta, GA., Linwood Nichols (Lillie)- Detroit, MI., Paul Nichols (Valentina)-Jamesville, NC., Toby Nichols- Plymouth, NC.; three daughters- Valtine Barnes (Bishop Avery Barnes)and Annie Blount (Bennie, Jr.)both of Plymouth, NC., Ester Wiggins (Kevin)-Greenville, NC.; two sisters- Lillie Martin and Edna Williams- Brooklyn, NY.; brother- Charles Norman-Williamston, NC.; seventeen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and church family.

Valtonia had seven sisters and two brothers that preceded her in death, Allie, Rosa, Peccola, Minniebell, Carriedale, Maye, Roberta, William and Walter.

Funeral services were 2:00PM Saturday March 7, 2015 at Spring Green Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) with Bishop Stanley C. Hicks, Pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Shiloh Memorial Garden.
