Obituary

Virnest Lee Nixon was born may 26, 1945 in Roper, NC. He was the son of the late Ernest Lee Nixon and Essie Mae Jackson. He departed this life on September 26, 2014 in Plymouth, NC.

At an early age "Hog" as he was affectionately known joined Bethel Church of Christ and was a member of the trustee board and the Bethel Male Chorus. He was also a member and president of the Everready Gospel Singers. He attended Washington County Public Schools.

He was employed with Weyerhaeuser for over thirty years. Upon retirement, doing as he pleased was his greatest pleasure. He enjoyed going from Little Man to McDonald's to meet with his faithful crew. He also enjoyed going to family gatherings and encouraging family members to stay together and to love one another. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a joyful , fun-loving person who would always greet you with a word.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and devoted wife- Mary D. Nixon, of the home, sons- retired Sergeant 1st Class Dexter E. Nixon (Gary)- Greenville, NC., brothers- Robert L. Nixon (Shirley), Dennis L. Nixon (late Mae Nixon), foster brother- Bobby Wilkins- Roper, NC., sisters- Erma Creekmore (late Willie Creekmore), Mary Cabarrus (late Herman Cabarrus), Maggie Nixon, Lucinda Nixon, Maxine Burnette (James), Alverta Chesson (Willie), Dianna Nixon, Carolyn Nixon, daughter-in-law- Barbara B. Drakeford, mother-in-law- Jonnie M. McClees- Columbia, NC., brother-in-laws- John McClees, Jr. (Sarah), Henry McClees (late Berdine) both of Columbia, NC., Michael McClees (Jennifer)- Franklinton, NC., sister-in-laws- Wilma Collins- Fla., Izeta Brown (late Freddie)-Newark, NJ., Gwendolyn Brown- Brooklyn, NY., Vanessa McClees- Newark, NJ., Gloria Nixon- Plymouth, NC., Cynthia Melton (Robert)- Chesapeake, VA., adopted sons- Koreem D. Nixon (Kezia)- South Carolina, Shawn Pinkard- Plymouth, NC., and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, adopted daughters, and friends. He was preceded in death by brothers- Daniel Gilliam, Sr., Ernest L. Nixon, Jr., Thomas F. Nixon, sister- Cherry Clagon, two sisters-in-laws- Adell Ojeda (Hector) and Arlene McClees , and a host of aunts and uncles.

Funeral services were 1:00PM Thursday October 2, 2014 at Bethel Church of Christ (Disciples of Christ) with Elder Samuel Smith, pastor. Burial followed in Bethel Church of Christ Cemetery.
