William E. Ruffin, Jr.'s Obituary
Elder William E. Ruffin, Jr., (Diddy) was born on December 3, 1947 to William Ruffin, Sr. and Margaret Barnes Ruffin. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 31, 2015 after battling Alzheimer's for several years.
William graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Suffolk and attended Charles A. Mason Seminary in Norfolk, VA. He also attended Virginia Union University in Richmond, National Theological Seminary and College of Baltimore, MD and Roanoke Theological Seminary in Elizabeth City, NC.
Elder Ruffin met and married Shera Gay in 1979, and from their union, four children were born. He was very accomplished at a number of things; he was ordained into ministry in 1981 and began leading people to Christ. William was an elder and associate pastor at Pentecostal Temple COGIC in Plymouth, NC.
He also founded Shera's Upholstery and Refinishing, Inc. William was a valued and dedicated member of the police force in both Virginia and North Carolina. As a person who was actively involved in his community, William was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand; he served as a hospital volunteer and a member of the public school system.
Elder Ruffin is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Shera M. Ruffin of Plymouth, NC; four children and three sons-in-law; Melissa Ruffin-Stuart (Harry); Keith Ruffin, Margaret Ruffin (Khaleel Abdul-Jaleel); Rachel Ruffin Stone (Benjamin); and three grandchildren; Bryson Lee Hebert, III, Jory Williams, and Jasmine Riddick.
William is also survived by his brother, Sinclair Ruffin of Lawrenceville, GA; five sisters; Lillie Mae Drewitt (Dwight), Denise Gay, and Ellen Brown (Fred), all of Suffolk, VA; Bernice Fields (George) of Charleston, SC; and Sheryl Pretlow (Derek) of Long Island, NY as well as an uncle, Dr. Darell Roney of Georgia.
