William Allen (Shorty) Baxton's Obituary
William Allen Baxton, (affectionately known as "Shorty") was born on July 29, 1945 to Sam and Emma Baxton in Roper, NC; he departed this life on Monday, April 18, 2016.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Ann Young Baxton; son William Allen Baxton, Jr.; and daughter, Lisa Cox.
William attended Washington County Union Schools; he mainly did farm work, but was widely known as the "Wood Man". As a young adult, he spent time with his brothers, George and Vernon, who lived in New York.
Upon his return to Roper, William dated and later married Charlotte Ann Young. The two were most often seen together, and enjoyed many years of married life before Charlotte passed away in 2015. "Shorty" was a precocious child who grew into a friendly man with a contagious smile and a ready story to amuse his listener.
He also loved gardening, helping anyone in need, and spending time with family and friends. William was an extremely talented and passionate woodworker; his work has been featured in newspapers and still graces the homes of others who shared his passion for the craft.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories: his daughters, Melissa Cisco, Shannon Cisco, Charlotte Young, Gloria Ford, Samantha Jackson, Tonette Phelps, Pamela Phelps, Ebony Phelps, and Tracee Baxton; his sons, Jermaine Clemmons, William Baxton, and Blake Baxton; and a son-in-law, Jose Morales.
William is also survived by three sisters, Alice Davis Baxton, Betty Lannon Baxton and Dorothy Lee Spruill; five brothers, George Ralph Baxton, Vernon Baxton, James Lawson Baxton, Ray Baxton and Edward Baxton. He also leaves many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and family.
