Willy Randolph Sanders' Obituary
Willy Randolph Sanders was born on February 27, 1954, the eleventh of fourteen children, to the late James and Mamie Simmons Sanders. He departed from this life on March 1, 2016 in Zebulon, NC.
Willy was preceded in death by three sisters; Catherine Shaw, Mary Brown, and Sara Jean Collins. He was also predeceased by four brothers; James (Buck) Sanders, Ernest L. Sanders, Robert Sanders and Melvin Sanders.
At an early age, he joined Long Ridge Missionary Baptist Church. Willy attended Washington County Public Schools and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1974. During his high school years, he worked at Jack's Supermarket.
Willy enlisted in the United States Army, and for most of his eight year tour of duty, he served with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, NC. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sargent E5.
Willy was employed by the Ready Mix Concrete Company, where he worked until retirement.
He was also affiliated with the Carthagenia Masonic Lodge #38, the Golden Crown Lodge #253 and the Brotherhood Club.
Willy was united in marriage to the former Linda Davenport in 1992; to their union, one son, Brandon Mikal, was born.
He loved his family dearly and adored his grandchildren. The telephone was his company keeper , and he enjoyed calling his family members daily. After the death of his brother, Ernest Lee, Willy embraced his brother's children with fatherly love and treated them like his own.
His kindness and consideration of others as well as his ability to make people laugh will be remembered fondly by both family and friends.
Willy leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife of twenty-three years, Linda; a son, Brandon Sanders of the home; two daughters, Yolanda Ellis (Jerrell) of Plainfield, NJ, Sha-Hara Atkinson (Brandon) of Zebulon, NC, and Georgina Bond of Merry Hill, NC, whom he loved as a daughter.
His nieces and nephews whom he helped to raise as his own are: Ernest, Patricia, James, Veronica, Jessica, Monica and Aja.
He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; four brothers, Jerry, Orlis (Rosa), and Larry, all of Plymouth, NC, Charles (Doris) of Jamesville, NC; two sisters, Deloris Goddard and Kay (Louis) of Plymouth, NC; three aunts, Juanita Hammie, Alice Virginia Godley, and Thelma Arrington; one uncle, Ernest Simmons; two sisters-in-law, Gwendolyn D. Bowser and Gloria Williams; one brother-in-law, Henry Davenport, all of Plymouth, NC, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
